With support from the Child & Family Foundation and through the intense efforts of Dario Bova and his team, a donation campaign was launched to raise money to buy a barrier-free bus. Once it has been purchased, the bus will make it possible to easily transport the disadvantaged young adults to and from locations, without difficulty. This is an important step towards giving them much more mobility.
In 2011, the Italian organisation "La Tarta Volante", (established in 1979 in Bibiana, Turin), founded the "Tam Tam" centre for young adults with disabilities, aged between 15 and 28. The centre serves as an information and meeting point for the beneficiaries. Here they are able to spend time together and take part in different activities, including workshops, which help to improve their self confidence. The centre offers youths and adults, with physical and mental disabilities, various services regarding education, culture, development and health. The organisation's main aim is to promote and integrate participants socially by providing educational and health-related services.
The services are directed at private individuals and those who have been referred by the ASL (the local health authorities).
The aim of this project is to equip the centre with a new bus, which will facilitate a better and more reliable means of transport for the teenagers and young adults. The bus will need to be equipped to adapt to the needs of the beneficiaries, as they various different types of disabilities.
Donation Campaign: Dreaming of a bus - Better transport facilities ensure more social inclusion.
September 2018 - June 2019
Approximately 20 teenagers and young adults with physical and mental disabilities, and 100 socially disadvantaged children and teenagers annually utilise the centre's infrastructure, its educational institutions and the cultural activities on offer.
