For almost 4 years 5 year old Duarte has been living at the "Centro de Acolhimento Temporário de Crianças em Risco – Renascer" shelter, an organisation that cares for 8 children who have temporarily been placed under their care. The carers of the privately funded shelter lovingly take care of the children and try to offer them a stable and caring environment as close to a family home environment as possible.
The daily tasks are made more difficult by the fact that 2 of the children suffer from physical and mental disabilities One of these fosterlings is Duarte, who has been paralysed since birth and can only be mobile with the help of a child's buggy. Duarte cannot live with his family. He is being lovingly cared for at the shelter, whilst youth welfare search for a loving family who will take him in and offer him a beautiful future. Due to his advanced age, Duarte's current buggy has become too small for him and no longer suits his needs as a child with severe physical disabilities. Unfortunately however, the shelter does not have enough funds to provide the relevant equipment for him. When members of the Community in Portugal heard about Duarte's situation they immediately wanted to help. André Azevedo and his team immediately set the wheels in motion to raise money in order to support this child.
The CFF and André Azevedo's team joined forces and obtained a special wheelchair from the Lyoness Loyalty Merchant Ortopedia Passo Real which, due to its construction, can be used for many years to come and also allows Duarte to play on the floor with other children . In addition, they also purchased a special seat, that will make daily showering and bathing much easier, and diapers, which are always needed at the shelter.
This project was very dear to everyone's heart and this was evident at the emotional handover at the beginning of November, when numerous Members of the Community were in attendance. By joining forces the life of a loveable child in need of help was changed for the better, all thanks to the involvement and commitment of so many people.
We would like to thank André Azevedo and his team, all sponsors, Educational Sponsors, the Lyoness Loyalty Merchant Ortopedia Passo Real and the Lyoness Portugal team, in particular Carlos Dias, who all contributed to the implementation of this project.
The aim of this project was to obtain a special wheelchair, a seat that will make the bathing and showering process much easier, and diapers for 5 year old Duarte, who suffers from several disabilities and is currently looked after by the "Centro de Acolhimento Temporário de Crianças em Risco – Renascer" organisation. The special wheelchair enhances Duarte's mobility and the special seat will make the daily showering process much easier. The acquisition of the wheelchair will dramatically improve Duarte's quality of life.
