A project by the Lyoness Child & Family Foundation Association in cooperation with the Austrian Aviation Museum,Thalerhof Airport Graz and several styrian social institutions.
For the third time the Lyoness Children's Flight Day in Graz was launched under the slogan "Aiming High".
The event was organised by the Lyoness Child & Family Foundation Association. More than 300 children and adolescents in the care of social services or who are housed in social institutions were given the opportunity to experience a scenic flight over Graz and the surrounding area.
This year's event was set up at the Austrian Aviation Museum in Feldkirchen.
On the 20th September 2014 more than 300 children and adolescents aged 5-15 years arrived here to experience their dream of flying.
Shuttle buses brought the children in groups to Hangar East at the Airport in Graz, where they could observe Graz and the surrounding area from above, as passengers in sports aeroplanes and helicopters.
In addition, the airline Intersky sponsored a scenic flight in a passenger aircraft over Styria for 50 children.
What's more, 50 volunteers helped out by staging fun and games activities to create a nice day for the children in addition to their flight.
"Without the incredible support of the volunteers and the numerous pilots, who were also working on a voluntary basis, the realisation of this event would never have been possible", noted Nina Passegger.
An attractive supporting programme supplied entertainment beyond the flights. Activities ranged from painting and craft stalls to a bouncy castle, rodeo riding, and tours around the Aviation Museum.
Special programme highlights for young and old were the presentation of the police dog unit and the fire brigade, a visit to the ÖAMTC emergency helicopters, and the autograph session of SK Sturm legends Markus Schopp and Hannes Mayr.
"It's a wonderful feeling to see the children beaming when they get back from their flight.
The excitement and the fun is really contagious", the Intersky pilot and member of the Austrian Aviation Museum Siegbert Seebacher, says enthusiastically. "You could really feel how happy the children were".
The aim of this event was to provide a break for children and adolescents in the care of Styrian social service institutions, as well as to let them see the world from a different view through the scenic flight. The adolescents and children were also offered a comprehensive supporting programme in order to make their time on the ground a wonderful experience too.
