An intact infrastructure as a first step towards education in India

Renovation and expansion of the Piyus Adarsh Public School in India

India is a country of extremes. The most diverse array of cultures, languages and religions find themselves interlocking on the India sub-continent. After Chine, the country has the largest population in the world and is perceived to be one of the most self-aware and dynamic countries which is currently searching for the right to occupy a position amongst the leading economic nations. At the same time, it is, however, a country in which the greatest number of poor people live.

Poverty, diseases, hunger, violent attacks on women

The issues are wide-reaching. Poverty, diseases, hunger, violent attacks on women, an unimaginable level of pollution, a disastrous educational system and child labour are just some of the challenges with which the inhabitants are confronted with on a daily basis.

Those worst affected by these unpromising conditions are the children, who often have to go out to work in the fields or at home from a very early age so that they can make a contribution to the family income.  Paying school fees or purchasing the necessary books are often issues which are impossible to overcome.

Hope through education

Equal opportunities for schoolchildren

Piyus Adarsh Public School

The 'Piyus Adarsh Public School' was founded in 2010 and already has a moving story behind it. The building which was originally very dilapidated and had only three classrooms was damaged further in 2016 in a flood, meaning that the school then had to be closed.

In 2017, the school was then reopened but, in 2018, when the staff room collapsed, the school had to be closed for good. Some of the children simply don't go to school at all at the moment, whilst others are transported via means of motor rikshaws to the Dhara Children Academy in Thakurdwara, which is also supported by the Child & Family Foundation. This, however, provides no long-term solution.

We would like to renovate the school from scratch and expand it with two further classrooms. The goal is to create a school in which it is possible for the children to be divided up into the appropriate classes and teach them in these constellations. Above all, they should be guaranteed a full-time education.

United for education and environment

Furthermore, with the help of the Greenfinity Foundation, they hope to be able to install a source of clean drinking water for the school. Thanks to photovoltaic panels, the school's energy needs can be met.

We look forward to getting this project off the ground shortly and to support lots of children in doing so. We would like to make it possible for them to improve their own individual living circumstances in the future and to be able to lead more independent lives.

The Child & Family Foundation will move to improve the living standards of the inhabitants there over the next few months with the help of our project partner, Dhara Poor Child Education Support Society, whereby a particular focus will be placed on the children.
