A Better Future Through Education
A very special "Angel for a Day" campaign took place at the start of the new school in Lithuania. 30 disadvantaged children and their parents were invited to attend a workshop, where they learnt the importance of everyone having access to a basic education.
The event started off with a speech given by the director of the "Education Development Centre", an institute of the Lithuanian Ministry of Education, which nominated the children and their parents for participation in the "Angel for a Day" campaign. In his address, he stressed the importance of every single person, regardless of their heritage, skin colour or social status, having the same opportunities. The Managing Director of Lyoness Lithuania, Vilija Zapalskienė, took the time to present the Lyoness Child & Family Foundation along with various projects, such as the Holy Trinity School in Nigeria, which really pleased the children.
After the presentations, each child received a schoolbag filled with school supplies. The aim of this small surprise was to facilitate the start of the new school year and lessen the financial burden on the parents. Afterwards a creative workshop for the children was organised, where they made postcards which were to be handed out to the students at the Holy Trinity School in Nigeria. The results of this workshop are really impressive! We're really looking forward to present the children in Nigeria with these postcards and subsequently inform the students in Lithuania how their creative works of art reached the other side of the world.
While the children were eagerly working on their cards, the parents could use the time to learn how to give their little ones the best chances in life, how to support them and raise them into responsible young adults. To the round the day off there was a small quiz on which the parents and children could work together. The children's artworks were then presented to their parents.
Everyone's feedback (from the children, parents and volunteers) on this amazing day was extremely positive and we hope that this workshop left a lasting impression on all participants. We would like to say a huge thank you to all those, whose support enabled this amazing "Angel for a day" campaign.
A very special thank you also goes to the following people:
