Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS for short) is a hereditary metabolic disorder. Caused by a genetic defect the people suffering from MPS are missing an enzyme necessary for the body to break down certain metabolites. MPS is rare, but the affected children and families have to deal with the illness nevertheless. Because it is so rare they often also have to deal with a deficit in support and attention as well as a shortage of information about therapies and medical possibilities.
He did it! Christoph Strasser, Ambassador of the Lyoness Child & Family Foundation, has won the Race Around Austria, which challenged its contestants with a distance of 2,200 kilometers and an altitude of 28,000 meters. Not only did he win, he also achieved it in the record time of 3 days, 15 hours and 24 minutes.
Fourteen 4-seater sports aircrafts and a 14-seater Cessna Caravan were able to take off with about 500 children and adolescents in need together with their families on this special day which is recurring every year to help take their minds off their daily routines and worries. Once again the aid organisation “Stunde des Herzens” was there coordinating and catering for the flight guests in a professional manner, while 50 pilots were taking off in aircrafts nearly every minute to bring joy to the young participants.
