Face painting and wheelchair decoration workshop: Hours filled with joy

The “Angel for a Day” campaign in Brazil lit up many a child’s eyes

On 20 November 2019, the Child & Family Foundation organised an “Angel for a Day” campaign in Santana de Parna Parnaíba, São Paulo, with the aim of giving disabled children and adolescents at the Comunidade de Amor Rainha da Paz facility a day filled with happiness and joy.

The day-to-day life of a disabled child is not easy. Besides comprehensive care, they also need a lot of attention and love, which may be a big challenge for many relatives. It is therefore particularly important to support these families. For this reason, the charitable organisation Rainha da Paz was founded in 2001.

Over the years, what started as a small aid association in a rented home, has developed into a huge facility caring for about 400 disabled children, adolescents and young adults. They offer not only various options for therapeutic treatment and supervision but also diverse social activities, programs and workshops.

Upon the suggestion of a myWorld employee who used to volunteer at the Rainha da Paz organisation, the Child & Family Foundation decided to support the facility in their work and organise an “Angel for a Day” campaign. 24 volunteers agreed to take part in the campaign and to help give the children and adolescents a day to remember.

Presents, games, and fun

On 20 November at 9 am, it finally started: the volunteers arrived at the Comunidade de Amor Rainha da Paz facility and were given “Angel for a Day” shirts to wear. They received a quick tour of the facility in order to get an insight into the work of the association.

Then they got to know the 39 children and adolescents taking part who were very much looking forward to the program. They immediately earned their trust.

The next few hours flew by as there were lots of things to do for the children. Alongside various group games, face painting and a photo box, there was also a wheelchair decoration workshop. The volunteers also played three rounds of bingo with the children where they could win amazing prizes, like a big Christmas hamper. Three hours later, the children received more presents and their faces lit up with joy. Saying good-bye was not easy but they took group photos to remind them of this awesome day.
