Nine Years of History

2021 is a very special year for our school in Honduras.

The school was founded in 2012 by Hubert Freidl, Doris Eggenberger and the Child & Family Foundation and started with just the 1st kindergarten class of children who were 4-5 years old. On 23rd August, we celebrated our 9th anniversary and soon those little kindergarten children who are now 13-years old will graduate and finish elementary school according to the Honduran educational system.

To mark this important anniversary, the children’s parents bought lovely food, including burgers, cupcakes and juice for the children to enjoy whilst getting involved in some games and dancing.

The Escuela now offers all official phases of mandatory kindergarten (4-6 years old) and primary school education which is divided up into 3 sections: 1st-3rd Grade, 4th-6th Grade and 7th-9th Grade. After these compulsory school years, pupils can then attend high school or college, between the ages of 15 to 17, after which they can also attend university or other forms of higher education.

Sadly, as the Corona situation has not improved, classes are still held online with the exception of some children who have to come to school to learn each day, as their parents both have to go out to work or due to a poor internet connection and insufficient devices. In this case, teaching staff make sure that everyone in the school building washes their hands regularly, keeps distance from others and that desks, tables and classrooms are frequently disinfected.
