“Helping to Help” is looking for the quiet heroes of ordinary life

The “Helping to Help” campaign (“Helfen beim Helfen”) of the Upper Austrian Kronen Zeitung and Upper Austrian Sparkasse, with support of the Austrian Red Cross and the federal state Upper Austria, rewards the quiet heroes of ordinary life with a round of applause and great prizes for their social commitment. They are awarded for demonstrating moral courage and selflessly advocating for the weak and ill or those in need.

“In most cases, these people do not get any reward for their actions. That’s why it is great to simply say thank you with Helping to Help,” explains Stefanie Christina Huber, Chairwoman of the Upper Austrian Sparkasse as of 2020.

Whether that be an individual, an association or an entire school class. As part of the “Helping to Help” campaign, everyone can nominate socially committed people or associations for the award via the Upper Austrian Kronen Zeitung. An expert jury will then select the winners in three categories.

A total of 945 aid projects

The numbers show just how successful this campaign was in the past: In the last 22 years, no less than 945 aid projects have been submitted, with the winners having been awarded a total of 224,000 Euro in prize money.

At this year’s “Helping to Help” gala on Monday 25 November 2019 in Linz, three committed individuals and groups or associations were awarded in three categories.

The Child & Family Foundation was awarded a prize in the category long-term projects for its long-standing Flugtag (flying) project for underprivileged children and adolescents, under the motto “The dream of flying”.

“We are extremely happy about this award that we only accept on behalf of all our partners, sponsors and volunteers without whom the children’s flying day wouldn’t be possible.

Each year, our long-standing supporters such as the myWorld group of companies and the Peter Affenzeller whiskey distillery do their best to enable more than one hundred children each year to experience the dream of flying.

The anticipation, the beaming eyes of the children, and the opportunity to help forget their everyday problems for a bit, that’s the very best reward for us to implement this project.”

Nina Passegger, Chairwoman of the Child & Family Foundation
