A Container full of Opportunity

In total, the container was on the move for nearly a month and covered 10,500 km during this time.

In Summer 2019, the Child & Family Foundation began to prepare a container for the Escuela Lyoness in Honduras.  The container was filled with school bags, clothing, books, exercise books, sports equipment and toys – all things which the school was in dire need of.  Altogether, the content of the container amounted to a value of over 40,000 Euros.

The eagerly-awaited container began its 1,100 km journey to Hamburg in Graz.  Here, the container was loaded onto a ship which would sale 9,200 km through the Atlantic and arrive in the port of Puerto Cortes.  Once there, the container had "only" another 180 km to go, in a lorry, before reaching Escuela Lyoness.  In total, the container was on the move for nearly a month and covered 10,500 km during this time.

However, before the container could be opened in front of the excited children, it had to survive the pitfalls of the Honduran customs process.  Thanks to our committed project leader, Doris Eggenberger, and numerous documents, we managed to get the container successfully to its destination.

The teachers, pupils and parents were overjoyed at the container's arrival at the school.  All of the gifts in the container were received with enthusiasm.  The new school bags caused the most excitement amongst the pupils and their parents as they were something truly special for the children.  Even if new school bags only cost, on average, the equivalent of 20 Euros in Honduras, these are often unaffordable for parents as the salaries in this Central American country are often very low.

We would like to say a big thank you to all those who made this fantastic relief project in aid of the pupils of Escuela Lyoness possible.
